BORDERLINE by Nevin Aladağ / Art Space Pythagorion July 20th – October 10th 2014
Art Space Pythagorion presents a solo show by artist Nevin Aladağ.
Titled Borderline, the exhibition will focus on the island‘s particular location, only eight hundred meters away from Turkish mainland, on the border between Europe and Asia. Through a set of video works, sound pieces and spatial interventions, temporalities such as borders and border transgressing, cultural identity and the notion of home, “proximity” and “distance” – which are anyway pertinent in Aladağ’s work – will be re-visited and discussed anew.
Nevin Aladağ was born in Van, Turkey in 1972 and studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and lives and works in Berlin since 2002. Her works have been widely shown internationally, in various solo- and group exhibitions at institutions including Sharjah Biennial, Kunsthalle Basel, MOT-Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo; Haus der Kunst, Munich; Hayward Gallery, London; The XIV. Biennale Internationale di Scultura, Carrara; The 11th Istanbul Biennial; The 8th Taipei Biennial, Taiwan; Kunsthaus Zürich, Switzerland; Kunsthalle Fridericianum, Kassel; Mathildenhöhe, Darmstadt; ARTER Vehbi Koc Foundation Istanbul and Museo Tamayo in Mexico City among others.
Dr. Andrea Lukas will be responsible for the artistic direction.
Marina Fokidis will curate the exhibition.
Art Space Pythagorion is an initiative of the Munich-based Schwarz Foundation.
